Necrogaming: Nobody will return to 2000?

Dacha, mountains of dusty boxes that I think I’ll never sort out – cartridges for SEGA, VHS cassettes, thousands of movie collections on one DVD disc. All this was reminiscent of the past, but nothing really stuck… Until I came across a box of magazines (no, not the ones you thought about, or the ones, depending on what you thought about)

Yes, those same magazines with thick reviews, cheat codes, posters and demo discs. And the culprit behind my eye catch – "Gaming addiction" for October 2006. The cover was slightly worn, but that didn’t stop me from melting on the spot

And what’s next?

Flipping through a magazine with stingy male (gamer) tears gave me the idea to do a retrospective. How much "bases" I missed — after all, in fact, my gaming experience ended with PS One — magazines and modern Let’s Plays (if you want to ask why, don’t ask — it will take a long time)

But where to start – I asked myself and immediately answered myself, let’s look at the older (experienced) magazines Igromaniya, Strana Igry, Navigator – smart guys sat there and wrote reviews – probably “goodness after goodness”

Imagine my surprise when I discovered Gambling for 1997.

The magazine turned out to be https://goodwincasino.co.uk/withdrawal/ more like a book of cheat codes, secrets and walkthroughs – no analytics or reviews for you, which, by the way, is indicated by the cover

I decided to skip PS games for now, I’m a fan of full resurrection rites, so I need to look, firstly for my PS one, and secondly for discs and current stores with discs, and if I don’t find them, I’ll have to search on the Internet – but again, that’s not what I’m talking about now

I started studying the “Base” with the IM magazine from January 1998. I came across a review of the quest with a high rating from the editors

With Monkey Island, I only had audio experience – a stream from my friend at school. He told me how he passed this or that location – and I was already there thinking out the best I could. But this experience was quickly forgotten and I think it will not help me in the current realities.

I bought myself a pack of three games – the weekend promises to be mysterious and simian in places.

What’s all this for??

I developed a local interest in whether games that were once considered masterpieces can still evoke the same feelings of admiration to this day? Have you thought about this? This series of posts will be about this (I hope I don’t get tired of writing)

Once again, what’s the point in a nutshell??

Each post in the Necrogaming series will be dedicated to one of these games. This is what it will look like:

Archaeological excavations: First I will dig up old issues of the magazine, find reviews, opinions and expectations of the editors of that time. How did they perceive this or that game?? What the developers promised us? What words echoed in the hearts of gamers?

Dive into the past: I’ll spend a few hours playing a game that was once predicted to become famous, or that has remained in the shadows. How is it played now?? What’s left of the magical feeling it once evoked??

Evaluation over the years: In conclusion, I will share my impressions – this time through the eyes of a modern player. Times have changed, and so have we. But what if the game, despite the years, is still able to captivate, surprise or even amaze??

Why do I need this?

I want to be part of an army of necromancers who know a lot about their business. And if you can get more adherents on your side, it will be great!
