Since there was no full review of this game on the site, I’ll try to do it myself. This is just my opinion, my personal under-review.
On March 26, 2019, the game I was really looking forward to was released. Generation Zero is a game about an alternative Sweden in the 80s, where technological progress after World War II led to the need to create robots, which subsequently destroyed the local population. At a minimum, the place and time of action is already non-standard. In addition, the developers are the Avalanche studio, which distinguished itself with the crazy revolutionary simulator Just Cause and the hunting simulator theHunter.
So what could you expect??
We, in the role of an unknown Swedish boy, are returning home from an excursion. For some reason, no one meets us there, and we decide to go and scout out the situation. On the road, not far from our house, our hero finds an abandoned car and a gun in the trunk. Suddenly, a grinding sound is heard a hundred meters away from her, and we see some kind of metal creature resembling a dog. It attacks us with a machine gun. Our character somehow fights back and runs further along the road. Basically, at this point the game gives the player all the tools for “fun” and releases him into the open world. You are free to go anywhere and do anything.
By the way, about robots. Although there are few of them, they are quite diverse in their shapes and sizes.
From small ticks and dogs .
to Huge Combat Non-Humanoid Robots
But what to do now? NOTHING interesting.
So we get to the https://big-dollar-casino.co.uk/withdrawal/ point why I compared this game to Fallout 76 (before the release of the Wastelanders add-on). Fallout 76 has at least 60 players on one server, but here you can only invite three friends, and only if you have them at all. In principle, there are no activities in the game, only the destruction of robots, the discovery of points of interest and raising your own self-esteem (Glory to Galperia) by discovering achievements, including your own creation (kill that GIANT robot, escape from a crowd of robots, survive in a field during shelling). In terms of points of interest, the game can compete with Far Cry, TC:GR Breakpoint/Wildlands and Assassin’s Creed.
And here is a map where the shelters are marked. This is not even counting the additional tags.
True, in games from Ubisoft there is at least some kind of return, for example, guns of a new level and so on. Here, all the weapons can be found in literally an hour and a half, and almost all the time will be spent on simple walking, since enemies can be easily bypassed 100 meters away from them (Hello Kojima).
Some kind of purpose? Forget it, there’s nothing like that here.
Side quests? Well… they kind of exist, but they’re not there.
Clear plot? No, we will slip it to you in incomprehensible notes not related to the plot and in the crackle of radio interference.
And this is not counting about a ton of problems with optimization, netcode, to put it mildly, strange saves (well, what’s normal when you left the game in a house in the center of the island, and appeared in the starting location) and stupid AI, which periodically either bumps into a wall or starts sniper fire for kilometers. The latter can somehow be justified, because these are robots, and so on.
In my under-review, you might think that the game has only disadvantages. But that’s not entirely true.
The game is worth visiting at least once for the beautiful views. They are simply amazing. At every step there is a place where you can photograph a beautiful landscape and put it on your desktop wallpaper.
(By the way, relatively recently there were free weekends)
The game also has quite pleasant shooting, the recoil is quite good and feels good. The unique style and location, coupled with the melancholy music style, is the perfect cocktail for exploring this abandoned world.
So I would give this game two ratings.
For style: Commendable
For performance: so far Prohodnyak
But since you only need to give one rating, it will be: Prohodnyak
However, I hope that the developers will fix all the negatives, since they release patches and add new content quite often. So let’s dive into the world of devastated Sweden, and admire the ruins of a dying civilization in the forest.
And Baron was with you, and this is just the beginning, because I hope this will not be my last blog.
